I was just curious if any of the large 6 inch or so fertilizer spikes which
come in different NPK ratios which I spied at our local Agway have any value
to the pumpkin growers. Are they too concentrated? Any thoughts or has
anyone used them?

Ned:

Would not use them myself because there are timed release ferts especially
designed for garden use that are formulated for heavy nitrogen feeding
veggies. If you want a carefree fert, try Osmocote brand, pelleted fert. One
application lasts 4 months. It's available at Wal-Mart or any good
nursery/garden shop. I got mine at Lowe's.

I decided to use it this year as a time saver. You sprinkle it down and rake
into soil. The Osmocote stays put through rain, etc. My plants look good, I'm
happy with growth (about 9 inches daily on my main vines right now) and it's
a snap to put down. Won't burn, what more could a grower want? It's a bit
pricey by the small container, but it's available in larger quantities at a
better price.
