Re: Planting Early

I dont know which Zone has the most 1000 pounders, but the border of NY
and PA (Zone 5) saw 2 1000 pound pumpkins within a 40 mile drive.. Bill
Bobier 1025 and Kevin Brown 1007 both grew big ones, with several
others checking in (I live central between the two growers, and had 771
and 679 pounders on the same plant).
According to Don Langevin's book, How TO Grow World Class Giant
Pumpkins II, the length of day for sunlight is a major factor in pumpkin
growing.. Too far south, it is too hot, too far north, it is too cold...
Central of that you will find max sunlight, moderate temps for a longer
duration without jepordizing burning up or freezing out the plants as
those aforementioned risk daily..
The lattitude line of 42 - 45 degrees is optimum for pumpkin growing...

Heading to Rhode Island.. Happy Easter to all..
