RE: Seeds


Great Idea...the Great Pumpkin Experiment!  I'll throw in my early
enrollment!

You could probably get a lot of people involved given the right
seed/genetics.  It would be best if the seed were at least one year old and
'proven' by at least one grower just so we don't have 50 growers grow 50
duds.  'Proven' doesn't have to be a 1000 pounder, those seeds would be too
valuable, but a 500-600 pounder would be nice. 

One thing to be wary of though...many barely have the time to grow and
minimally measure.  If you start asking people to do too much in the way of
'reporting' you may dissuade people from being involved.  Being a new grower
last year, I measures almost daily just from excitement...and that was for a
326# pumpkin!  I just wish I had prepared better.  This year, my goal is
around 600#.  Of course, a thousand pounder is always welcome in my patch.
