Re: plant size

Ed,
I think "optimum plant size" depends on
how many sq. ft. you are working with.
I am growing in a 2000 sq. ft. space......
I am doing 3 plants.......about 650 sq. ft.
per plant..........I know another Napa grower
who has almost unlimited space (if there is
such a thing) who will probably grow one
plant up to 3000 sq. ft. and about another
dozen plants 600 to 1000 sq. ft. each.

Gary Burke grew his 1092 in less than
500 sq. ft.
I personally have seen a lot of very nice
solid 600 to 800 pounders grown on
700 sq. ft. (or less) plants........ a big part of
it is "care".........weather plays a major role
.....and of course there's always genteics.
...........not to mention LUCK !!!!
(>:
Ideally 1000 sq. ft. per plant.

Hello everyone

I was wondering what the current school of thought is on the optimum size in
square footage that an AG plant should be allowed to grow. In the last year
or two I have read several posts that several large pumpkins have been grown
on some relatively small plants. Are these flukes. I wonder what the average
size of the plants that grew pumpkins over 1000 pounds last year were. Any
thoughts on this?
