I have tried both flat and point down over
the years. I think the results are 50/50.
If I am germinating my seeds in a
controlled environment I always go
point down and have had about 95%
success.

Alun...lying flat is the natural way a seed sits when mother nature
melts your squash in the winter and starts the seed in the
spring......12 for 12 here in test trials...all twelve were set an inch
below the soil in the flat position....all twelve came up casing-free
and undamaged. Perhaps those dainty little orange ones can't handle life
in the real world !?.......................Glenn
