Re: genetics / breeding
Geo,
I think Environment plays a huge role with AG's...........that includes
soil ,climate, watering.grower cultural practices.etc.... You can give a
great seed to a grower with poor soil , poor climate...........in fact
anything that falls in the poor range hurts the outcome of the weight.
thus........ the weights are heavily influenced by the environment ........
another indicator of environment is that some of the same growers are
hitting 750 + somewhat consistantly with a wide range of genetics
..........alot of things are right...........in their environment
The thing I think is tricky is you have great growers when good conditions
occur, taking seeds to there fullest potential..........they hit
900+........ but can you duplicate that particular
.........skill......soil... climate........
....just because you have that 900lb+ seed doesn't mean you can do the
same with it.....................its not just magic.......
Personally I think that you have to keep an open mind to good genetics(
shown from the pros their potential).................but they're are lesser
weights of the same caliber................ grown in conditions that match
your patch, talent and environment...........................
I know i know that this is sac religious but I noticed the Stucker pumpkin
was getting equal time with the 977
Barenchi and spectators.......................So if I am having trouble
hitting the 1000lber........and these orange genes are awesome
and hitting top dog is ...........well tough..............something real
pretty soothes the pain..............going half and half.......eye pleaser
vs lead ballons
.....of course the new world record was a pretty
orange........................... and thats real cool!!...........MBrock
