Call for Pictures
Here is another call for giant pumpkin related images. I will need all
submissions by May 10th, and your submission should be accompanied by a self
addressed return envelope and a note indicating your permission to use them
in How-to-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins 3.
This information should also be passed on to people that you know should be
contributors, but are not members of the pumpkin list. Email this request to
as many pumpkin growers that you know so that I might, at least, attempt
publication of all pictures in the following categories:
Top 100 all-time: If you've grown over 900 pounds, you're probably on this
list.
Top state, province and country all-time record holders.
I also invite all site coordinators, association leaders, and the like, to
submit group photos of member get-togethers, or weigh off pictures showing
large groups of people. I would like to be able to say after publication that
every serious pumpkin grower in North America can find his face in these
pages.
I am also always looking for good images that can be sized up for proper
display in the book. Close-up shots of plant parts, shots showing cultural
procedures, funny and interesting images, and anything that is well composed
and containing references to giant pumpkins are just a few of my needs.
If you think it is really good - send it along for evaluation.
If images are from digital cameras, they must be at least 800 pixels wide
without any after shot interpolation (this scales down to print at less than
3"). The raw image must be at least 800 pixels. If you have more that just a
few images, I would prefer that you write them to a CD, or copy them to a Zip
cartridge. Less than a few can be attached to an email to annedawn@aol.com.
I will also accept prints and color slides (in fact, I much prefer them). I
will scan and return them to you in the self addressed envelope you provide.
Please write a short caption for each on a sticky note, and attach it to the
back of the photo (include year, person(s) names, pumpkin weights, and where
the photo was taken).
The following table of contents for the new book might help you to remember a
particularly good picture you've taken that could fit into one of these
chapters:
Heavy Hitters
Records
Seed selection
Seed preparation
Transplanting
Warming, Cooling, Protecting (a general chapter on warming soil and cooling
and protecting plants)
Feeding
Calcium
Watering
Growth Regulators
Pollination and Genetics
Pruning Strategies and Plant Size
Estimating Weight
Carving and Sculpturing
Sailing
Groups and Associations
and other chapters to be added.
If you think you've got something - send it. If you need further
clarification, call or email me soon.
Best wishes,
Don Langevin
