Boy, I really wanna sign these comments at the end with the name McCoy but Im
sure you're REALLY tired of that. Anyway....Sevin is best for Cucumber
beetles, you have to get the squashbugs when they are young with an
insecticide or you'll have to pick'm off by hand. They're tough. Some swear
by bug-b-gon for those critters.
Unfortunately, the general consensus is to pull weeds by hand or
hoe...verdict isnt in on weedkillers and thier effect on giant pumpkins yet.
Dont expect much from the "shelf seed". Depending upon your "target date for
fruit completion", you may be a bit too early. A may first start for October
pkns is more appropriate.(this will give you time to request free seeds from
growers here or time to go to Bigpumpkins.com and get free seeds from
there...or buy from P+Pseeds.com,'s premium seed or Howarddill.com's premium
seed.....hint hint....much better than shelf seed).
There's a Indiana grower over there named Tomboy, Beachman, or Beachboy, or
something like that...oh, yeah---BEACHY, thats it.....he grew A FEW over 800
last year and one that was 1097lbs who has AWESOME crosses....he should reply
to this email (im sure of it...lol)...he should be able to guide you as to
local conditions and timing. Do what he says...he's very successful. Good
luck.....G. McCoy (sorry)
