AG gene survival
Group--a while ago somebody commented about where the top seeds came from,a
subject near and dear to my heart, I have been looking at that theme since I
first got interested in AGs.Of course it depends how you look at the
question.
Any genes that survive for 4 generations deserve a lot of attention in my
view.
The important fruit below are listed geographically but if there is any
interest I will also show then grouped by year too, which paints a somewhat
different story.
Of course there are many top AGs at the 1,2 and 3 generation stage and in
due course SOME of them will survive to 4 generations.Note that quite often
it is one seed, not one fruit but one seed from that fruit, that has made the
great genetic progress.
This is just a simple list of facts. If anyone has any comments or insight to
share then please do so.---AE

35 official 1000+ Giant Pumpkins grown in 2002
Mothers' ancestors,4 generations back
The genes of the following pumpkins and squash have survived for four
generations and contributed to at least one 1000+ pumpkin in 2002.
Example-listing all the fruit 4 generations back on the mothers'pedigrees
for the 35 at 1000+,the "609 Laemmle 89" shows up 21 times.Thus
the
frequency of 21 shows the weighted importance to the present AG
gene pool.--------A.Eaton,Jan/03
