Hey WSMPEACE:
I'd start by counting backwards from your target weighoff by 160 days or so.
(10 days seedling stage, 70 days plant growth, 80 days fruit growth). The
problem lies in that for many growers, depending on location, the soil is
not warm enough in early May to support growth, so you must protect/provide
heat. Some growers would rather plant a week or two late as soil warms...You
should be able to get by down there in Kentucky, though. I'd check with some
local growers down there on start dates & measures they take for early plant
protection...
