   It is hard to argue with good results. If you are talking about only
leaving them in the water for a matter of hours, it may be a better way of
getting the seed to take its first drink of water. I do presoak my seeds
sometimes for a few hours in warm (not hot) water but never totally submerge
them. Filing is also good but people should be careful to not file too much.
No matter how one choses to germinate seeds, it is of the utmost importance
to keep your soil temp around 80 to 85 degrees. Put a thermometer in a dummy
pot to monitor actual seed starting mix temperature. NORMAL ROOM TEMPERATURE
IS TOO COOL. Greenhouse temps may be too cool at night. If you don't have the
temperature, you are putting your seeds in jeopardy. They are tough to
germinate at room temp and if you fall below 70 degrees you will have real
problems.
