Hi All,
Well the year is officially started for me now. After the insight the mail
list, Jack LaRue, Joel Holland and Kirk Mombert have given me (Thank You
Everyone!!) the seeds are in and most are up in my germination room. This
year I started the seeds in a pretty well sealed room at 82 degrees. I used
the 1 gallon plastic pots cut in half diagonally and put back together with
duct-tape (ala Joel). The soil media used was Sunshine mix #4 known as
'plug', a combo of 33%perlite, 33%vermiculite, and 33% peat moss with a lite
fertilizer already in it. The seeds were planted without anything special
done to them, except filing the edges, in the evening of the 15th, and all
but 3 have al least broken ground. Here is the list starting with the most
vigorous:
#698 Richart 96 (567.5 Mombert X 627.5 Hester) up in 3 days.
#567.5 Mombert 92 (609 Lammie X 616 Holland) up in 4
#627.5 Hester 95 (1) (910 Nelson X 923 Brown) up in 4
#627.5 Hester 95 (2) (910 Nelson X 923 Brown) up in 4
#941 Eaton 96 (887 Orr X 663 Eaton) up in 4
#827 Holland 92 (575.5 Dill X 742 Fisher) up in 5
#627.5 Hester 95 (3,4,5) (910 Nelson X 923 Brown) up in 5
#850.5 LaRue 95 (567.5 Mombert X 782 Holland) up in 5
The remaining two, a #511 Woodward and an #849 Holland, are being quite shy.
This morning it did look as if the #511 was stirring, but the #849 still
looked still. I am very satisfied with the way the season has started and
hope everyone else is having the same luck. Take Care, Brett, The
Pumpkinguru
