Mark!
A fellow planter nearby.......I live next door in Livermore, California. If
you are interested, send me your email address and we can compare notes as
the season progresses.
I've been planting for years, but I grow strictly for the local contest at
Alden Lane that uses only the Big Max variety.
I planted a set directly last week and just planted my other plot directly
last night. The first came set up beautifully and I expect the new lot will
do the same.

rookie planter has buried his seeds. I wish I could say that the seeds
are Giants but alas they are Howard Dill "Jumpin Jacks". Giants are
what I originally planned but due to various reasons I thought growing
several pumpkins instead trying for one or to two big ones in my little
spot would be more suited to me. Anyway the temp here in No. Cal was
high 70s yesterday and they are predicting 85+ for this weekend. Those
temps made me think that now is a good time to direct plant them. I
planted 17 seeds yesterday and I will thin to two plants as they emerge
and show there strength.
Does anyone out there have good knowledge of the "Jumpin Jack"?
I would like to know about plant size, How many pumpkins can grow well
per vine, is it disease resistant. Any info would be appreciated.
Take care and happy planting
Mark
