Patrick,
You are right. The blossom must be protected after pollination too for at
least one day. It is important to cover the females and male flowers the night
before they open, for bees usually beat the earliest pumpkin person. If you
are not trying to do specific breeding, many growers don't cover their flowers
and just pollinate and let the bees have fun too. I do it both ways, depending
if I am trying a certain cross.
