Planning ahead

The question was once asked on this list as to when the best time might be to cut the pumkin from the vine before going to a weigh-off contest . This was (IMHO) the classic response:

1) Drive truck to patch and load pumpkin onto truck.
2) Drive towards weigh-off site
3) When you run out of vine, cut pumpkin from vine.

:-)

 

Why thoughts of weigh-offs come before I even plant, who knows?? Somehow I am thinking of an old Gallo Bros advertisement and how it relates to pumpkins:

 

"We shall harvest no VINE before it's time"....or was that "harvest no WINE before it's time????"      :-)

 

Either option makes much sense too me.
