Message for George Heyne...

Sorry, but I misplaced your email address. How are things in Rochester?
Well, it is the middle of April. I've been trying to keep myself busy so that
I wouldn't be dwelling on the pumpkin seeds that you sent me. It's been
working, but now things are greening up here in the Minneapolis suburbs and
I'm getting restless again. Is there anything that I can do to prepare the
pumpkin patch? I've been tilling the straw and manure from my pet pig into
the ground, I do this every year and it seems to work nicely. Do I need to
add anything else? Do I need to do a soil test first? The neighborhood that
I live in used to be a potato field until about 1982, and the soil is dark
black. I always just assumed that it was rich in minerals and organic matter.
I thought you said that you don't plant until the end of May. Is that seeding
directly into the ground, or is that when you start them indoors?
Thanks again for all your help.
