List owners comments

As I start this note I am reminded of President L.B. Johnson who once said
"...I come to you tonight with a heavy heart". I too come tonight with a
heavy heart. After two days I can no longer remain silent.

I guess this is where I get removed from the list because, IMHO, if the
"listowner" tells me to either totally agree with him or he will kick me off
the list one of two things needs to happen.

1) The listowner needs to admit he was having a "bad hair day", and that is
the end off it and all is forgotten. :-)

2) Or, since he has several times refused monetary help, then I must take up
his offer to start a new list where auctions, and individual opinions, are
allowed.

Maybe a middle road can happen. Maybe there can be a second list where
auctions are allowed, disk space is not mentioned and people are not told
that money is an issue while offers of money are refused.

I have been on this mail list prior to Duncan's "listownership". I think
even prior to Duncan being on the list. I have written for the PNWGPG
newsletter. I have given away seeds by the hundreds. Thus I feel I can ask a
civil question without a smart response from the list owner about paying or
keep quiet, and then have my offers to pay rebuked.

To that end I submit that since both Ford and GM can co-exist, then maybe
Duncan's list need not be the only list in the world about pumpkins.

I have thus set up another mail list for anyone interested in the activities
forbidden on Duncan's list. That being auctions, comments to the list owner
that are different than that of the list owner, and my promise that no one
will be "removed" without the consensus of a timed response of the list
members, who will be asked to respond privately.

If the members of the new list feels someone is off topic, the list will
need to say so. If the list is quiet about it, then it may find it is
talking about banana slugs rather than pumpkins. For the lousy $5/mo. a list
costs me I am not going to get involved in trying to be a list cop, except
at the wish of the list itself.

Maybe no one wants a second list just to have auctions. Maybe a second list
will grow, maybe it won't. What is now Duncan's list is a part of my life
that I don't want to have threatened by an owner who says that I must agree,
or be silent, or be "removed".

Don't get me wrong, I too very much agree Duncan does a lot for the sport,
but this time, IMHO, he did too much. A second list can't hurt pumpkin
growing. It certainly isn't meant as a way to hurt Duncan's list, rather
complement it with activities and conversations that he, and Mallorn's CEO,
say have no place on Duncan's list.

Sorry to be so wordy. If interested in the new list, which uses the more
user friendly Lyris interface rather then Majordomo, then go here:
http://lyris1.telelists.com/htbin/lyris.pl?enter=pumpkins Go to the "Join
Pumpkins" icon and the rest is easy. Of course it is free to join.

Here's hoping I will still "read" you here as well as there.

Respectfully submitted.
