3) Rather than stewing over an issue for several days and then suddenly
taking action without trying to work out problems, members in
disagreement can send the listowner or the company that runs the
list a message saying "But we'd really like this..."

I'll admit that Duncan's wording was a little strong. I don't think he
meant to sound so harsh, but I'm not Duncan and can't speak for him.

However, I can say that if someone had come to me asking for another
list at Mallorn specifically for seed exchanges or bidding, I probably
would have set one up. Fact is, I received a half dozen emails supporting
my comments and not a single one refuting it, so I had no way of knowing
that anyone felt as you do.

Regarding money, Duncan was probably wrong in mentioning that as an issue
too. He may not have understood Mallorn's reasons for supporting the list,
which is part of the reason that I sent out my response. But he is
ultimately the listowner, and for that reason alone what he says goes
regarding content.

I agree that a second list is probably a Good Thing in this situation. I
only hope that the two lists don't start crossing over into similar topic
areas, confusing those interested in finding pumpkin-growing information
on the Internet and inadvertently hurting the sport. I find the
duplicate name especially prone to confusion, but I suppose that what's
done is done.

Regardless, I wish you luck with the new list. I hope that it too can
become a valuable resource for pumpkin-growers worldwide.

Chris
