Dolly is the new New Zealand Champion weighing in at 254 Kg or 558.8
pound. Looks like my Aussie friends have pipped us at the post.
Congratulation to you all.
Thank you Chris Andersdon - this is all your work reflected over here as
Dolly was your 634 X 977. Barb - you were right, that is a powerful mix.
Next year Tony - next year!
We had 96 pumpkins - the supply seemed to dry up in the end. Kaiapoi got
34 pumpkins with the heaviest at 169 Kilo. Kawerau got 67 pumpkins with
the heaviest at 127 Kilo.
Initial results are
Winner 3 - 9 year age group Andrew Buhler @ 160.5Kg
Winner 10 - 15 year age year group Jarden Drought @ 119 Kg
Winner 16+ year age group Tracey Coles @ 140 Kg
Winner Family/Group Normanby Primary School @ 168 Kg
NZ Champion John Sargeant @ 254 Kg (Withdrawn from local competition).
The highlight of this is that a Primary School won and that means that
there are 368 children in Taranaki who are now really keen on growing
giant pumpkins This alone is the best result we could hope for.
We have eleven buckets of seed to sort out. All pumpkins not taken away
by owners were chopped up and seeds gathered.
We had a really marvellous day. About five or six hundred people in the
park. The folk group were excellent and the sun shone bright all day.
This was one of the best events in the province for a long time and that
was agreed by a lot of people. The Salvation Army gave out lots of free
tea, coffess and cordial. Ferris Wheels and all sorts have left a lot of
people with happy memories which is what it is all about. We got on
national television on the six OÇlock News.
Everybody had a terriffic time and it was all thanks to YOU good people
out there who were able to send seeds when we were stuck. So THANK YOU
to each and every one for seeds sent, best wishes sent and support
during our season.
I see your season is starting up. I will watch with interest but I now
have other things to do so I will take a back seat until half past
September.
I will post whose seeds did what in a few days or so when it is all
sorted out by Jan and Kelli in admin'.
We have certificates to send to all those who brought a pumpkin in so
that will take a while.
I must admit, I am all pumpkined out - but what a glorious season.
Next year Tony - next year.
