Compliments to the author, excellent page on Lighting.
My own experience with lighting is that last year I only used cool white
flourescent tubes (2) 40 watt tubes. My plants seem to grow ok, however I
noticed a pale color, bleached-out look to my cucumbers and squash. I did
have the lighting about 6" from my plants. The AG's were growing fast and
strong. I believe it is best to use 1 cool white and 1 warm tube. This
gives a full color spectrum, blue to red respectfully.
This year I am going with all grow lights. I will see if this makes a
difference.
Never use an incadescent, it gives off very little, if any, UV light.
