Greg,
1,000 watt metal halides are coool....not temperaturewise. Back in 1986 I
had a couple out in the patch....extending daylength....it looked like Yankee
Stadium. You can't get within 5 or 6 feet of a 1,000 watter...it will
literally give you a sunburn. As I recall, they run at about 1,500 degrees F.
I don't fool around with them any more. I use them for outdoor lighting when
I'm working on a project. It lights up the whole neighborhood. I haven't
bought one in years.....I bet a good one with bulb and ballast is 400 bucks.
