It is normal for the seed leaves to die off after the plant has numerous true
leaves and is well established. Yellowing can also appear due to chlorosis,
which indicates an iron deficiency or problems with iron uptake due to a
high (alkaline) soil pH. If you have added too much lime to your planting site
this may be the problem. An iron deficiency can be remedied by adding chelated
iron to your soil or applying it as a foliar spray. I'm not sure what the
problem is if you have a young seedling growing in potting soil in a container.
