I have tried these expensive drum composters in the past with little luck. If
the conditions are absolutely right and the feed stock is properly balanced
you can get a reasonable compost in about three weeks. This also takes close
supervision. I operate a large composting operation (56,000 tons/year) using
aerated windrows inside a building. For home composting there are numerous
inexpensive composting bins available. At home I just place leaves, grass and
plant trimmings in a pile, water initially and then turn over once a month.
This is easy and it works.
