Re: Key west

The temperature while I was in Key West  was between 85 and 95
degrees in the shade.  The ground there was very dry.  I guess it
is really expensive to get water too, because it is all piped in from
the mainland... about a hundred and twenty miles. Another thing is
the keys are basically overgrown coral reefs.  There is almost no
topsoil.  If you did try to grow an AG there, I think you would want to
start it in November and let it grow through the "winter" months.

One interesting thing that I saw was two manatees beside a dock,
nudging each other out the way so they could drink fresh water out
of a garden hose.  I heard that they do this because the water is
saltier around Key West and they need the fresh water to live.  I wish
I could get my pumpkins to suck down as much water as they did!

If anyone would like to sponser me so I could take a few months and
try growing pumpkins in the Keys please e-mail me privately..HA-HA!

PS. I am actually at 44 deg. 43 min. 20 sec. North Lattitude.
