Nope...borers will enter where ever they feel like it..However they
seem to really concentrate on the stump areas the most....I've seen them
enter into the stem of an established fruit...all side vines..sometimes
they will bore thru the leaf stem up near the top and drop down the
hollow stem and enter the vine that way!! Tough little SOB's to deal
with.. If you want to here some of the extreme measures I have used this
season drop me a private note and I'll let you in on what I have done
