Hi Josh!
Sounds a lot like purple loosestrife,the scourge of
the earth. In Civil War times it was used for
medicinal purposes, but is now taking over many of our
wet lands, destroying habitat for native wildlife. Is
it growing in a damp area? If it is "the scourge", you
should pull up or remove and burn all flowers before
they go to seed. (They have "tough" roots! I have had
limited success with round-up, but you have to keep up
with them. Here in Pa., they are expirimenting with a
beetle that eats nothing but these plants. Don't let
them takeover!
