    It sure sounds like purple loosestrife.   It was growing in an area
where the high water table was one - two feet below the surface,  that
was until my dad dug a pond and now it is every where he put the soil. 
The area is at a slight grade and I am conserned if I apply Roundup too
much I will have no soil by the time l kill the thistle.  Do you have any
ideas as to what I should do?  I also was wondering if purple loosestife
and Canada Thistle are the same?  Thanks for the hope you have been so
far.
