Hello, all. First off, if you are growing any of my
seeds from last year, and I haven't heard from you, please let me know how
you're doing. No matter what. On to the update. Out of ten plants,
I've only got one real shot at a nice one, and It's cracked. It's a
blossom end split, circling the old blossom part. The left side cracked,
and was powdered with captan, and healed up. The right side, however,
cracked and has since enlarged and slowly "rotted" to become about 2-3" long,
and almost 1" deep. Here's the good news: the pumpkin has been
putting on a consistant 19-21 pounds a day. I seem to have at leeast
slowed down the crack by scraping dry, then putting somewhat dilute bleach in
the crack letting it set for a litle while, drying, the powdering with captan.
It hasn't gone throug to the cavity, and I'm hoping this one has an extra thick
blossom end. The problem is that since it is growing, the vascular tissue
won't heal over, causing it to ooze, especially during the night. That's
why It needs to be almost continually scraped and dried. Right now, it's
about 370#, and very nicely shaped. It's from the 1009.5 Eaton. Has
anyone else experienced this sort of thing before? Is there anything else
I should do?
