Hello All,
Well this summer has been an interesting one and a good one. The pumpkin
patch has actually taken a back seat in my life as I have made the ultimate
score and gotten engaged to a wonderful woman. Guess what, she likes the
pumpkin thing and is ready to kick my butt next year. It could turn into a
Jack and Sherrie LaRue type of thing. I sure hope so. Anyway, here is what
is left in the patch....
The death toll stands at 3 plants....
The 930 Emmons went down around the first of August to a simple cooking. The
temp outside at ground zero was around 120 degrees and the plant literally
was steamed, turned to mush and died in one day. My 793 from last year and
the 1010 Mackenzie both are suffering from total neglect as I have not tended
them at all this summer. My 801 Stelts number 2 plant and my 946 Geerts were
over fertilized and cooked. The 946 has a fruit on it, but it is only around
300 inches. My #1 850 Hester plant has suffered from overwatering and is
considered also a casualty of war. The 865 Mettler lost its big one last
week to a blossom end stress and finished at 661 pounds. It may have
survived a couple more weeks, but never to a weighoff. My 850 #2 plant
blossom end split its big one on Aug. 2nd and weighed in at #557 pounds. A
definate plant again in 2001. Last week my number two fruit on the 850 #2
plant went to a little grower error and weighed in at #476 pounds.
What is left you ask, well a couple more over 330 inches and along with a
squash, and one squash that is scary big for this time. Without jinxing it,
I think I can say that it already measures within 7 total inches of my #862.5
squash from last year and is still rippin.
Take Care,
Brett The Pumpkinguru Hester
