Re: Iron

I talked with Jim Kuhn on the phone about 10 days ago and I believe he
said that his pH was a little low to begin with. We have used Ironite
longer than most and when last checked, (this spring), the pH levels in
our 3 patches were, 6.4, 6.8, and 7.5. We added some sulpher to the 7.5
patch (Gerry's patch) to lower the pH. We did apply about 20# of
Ironite per patch each year which is about 2# per 100 sq. ft. If your
soil is already high in iron, you probably do not need to use as much.
Obviously, too much of anything is not good, but I do not think that
Ironite will lower pH very much when used at the recommended rate.
