What I usually do is try to scrape out the mushy part, then spray with a 10:1 solution of bleach to kill bacteria. I follow this with drying the affected area and applying Captan to prevent fungal infection. If the mushy part doesn't go into the pumpkin, you should last three weeks or more. Just be sure to check it regularly and treat again if needed.

        Have a stem that is a little mushy but not split and leaking a lot, wondering if it can last three more weeks . I would like to enter it in a fair on the 5th of Sept. Any suggestion on how I can keep it that long.
