I had a similar problem last year and got decent results with liberal
applications of sulfur powder. This did not stop the stem from softening
but slowed it down to the point where it finished up the growing season
nicely. Also, make sure no water is getting on the stem.

List ,
Have a stem that is a little mushy but not split and leaking a
lot, wondering if it can last three more weeks . I would like to enter it
in a fair on the 5th of Sept. Any suggestion on how I can keep it that
long.
