Pumpkins at the Fair

I guess I'm one of the few that will have the dubious honor of being a "first year grower" twice but after returning from our county fair today I didn't feel so bad!  The largest pumpkin entered this year was about the size of a basketball!  Normally the have several that would take 2 or 3 people to unload, but not this year.  All of my plants crashed and burned early in the season - the only fruit that I did get floundered at about baseball size.  But,  I'll just lurk here during the remainer of the growing season and see what I can learn.  There's always next year :>  Jetta in VA
