Re: Protecting the stem
Help I have a pumpkin that measures , by the over top method,
272" 411lb My problem is a bad place on the stim. I haven't grown any for
a few years and would like to know the modern way of treating this? The
old method was to use a tooth brush and get the rot out rense with a mixture of
chlorox and water and apply captan. I even forget the correct mixture for
the chlorox. Any help would be appreciated. It is growing at the rate of
20 lbs a day.
Have a Nice Day

I'm new, and I had a similar circumstance to start with; the poor thing had been in a peat pot so long, it had literally fallen over and was laying over three other pots. So when I planted it, I made the hill extra big and buried it up to it's leaves. No stem visible for the sun to dry out. So far as I know it seems to have worked, at least the plant is growing fine for now.
