I have noticed the same thing. I think it is in the soil. Check the PH with soil tester and see what the soil ph of the one that seems to love the heat is. I have also found that plants that are not doing doing as well sometimes have bugs (grubs, squash bugs, vine bores or cucumber beatles) eating the growth out of them.
