First of all Glen, does the wound go all the way into the pumpkin? If it does
the pumpkin is gone because it is rotting from the inside. If not I would
clean the wound with a little beach and water. Then treat the area with a little
Captan or other funguside. (You can seal a small crack that goes into the
cavity with Silicone but it is not legal for weigh offs unless it can seal on it's
own and there are no holes or cracks to the inside. You may be able to save
it if the hole goes thur for a good display pumpkin though)
As far as the color you more than likely have a pumpkin that has more squash
genes
that pumpkin genes. You will know this in the next few weeks if it starts
getting a green cast then it is more squash.
Good luck
Bill
PS. I use a old tooth brush to clean the crack or hole and make sure it drys
out (Do Not Use Your Wifes Tooth Brush or she will get really pissed!)
