It sounds like your problem is with poor pollination. Many growers will
actually build a Styrofoam enclosure around the female flower, and put ice
in it to keep the temperature down during the hot morning hours after
pollinating. Female flowers do not pollinate well in hot conditions.

This temp issue is making me think. It is very hot where I live, triple
digits in the days dropping to mid 60s @night. My fruit keeps getting
to basketball size, then shriveling, and vine growth has been very slow.
I suspect it has to do with the heat, but I do not have a soil
thermometer, so I cannot gauge my soil temp. The soil feels like it
could be in the high 80's-low 90's. Is it possible to damage roots at
that temp?

Hi Don. I'm averaging just under 20 a day and my soil temp is at 64
degrees. We've had hot days for most of the summer, but the nights have
been really chilly.
