RE: Cool Clear Water, Water....

If you are in a place where the humidity is high ie. Midwest, South, etc. I
would suggest drip irigation or watering at the vine site. Fugicide is only
effective for certain things. It will not cure bacterial wilt for instance.
If you water with sprinklers, do it in the AM so the leaves can dry out
before sundown. Wet leaves at night with high humidity is a recipe for
disaster. Also, be careful not to water too much!! Give your plants one or
two good soakings ( @1.5 inches) per week. This is better than constant
moisture or dry to wet cycles. By the way, I feel that city water is beter
than well water and works fine.

Subject: Cool Clear Water, Water....

I have been told to get plenty of it out there, but how leaves me some
questions.

Most of what I have read on the matter leads me in the direction of watering
at the soil level with soaker hoses.

I really like the idea of watering from above with an oscillating sprinkler,
for the convenience and efficiency of it.

I saw on "Lords of the Gourds"
(http://www.pbs.org/previews/lordsofthegourd/) some heavy hitters watering
from rain barrels and using the aerial approach. I am assuming that this is
okay so long as you are treating the plants with a fungicide.

Some day I want to set up the rain barrels and pump from them to the ground
(rain water produces so much more growth) but for now it's city water and a
wand walking to each plant. I know I am not getting as much out there as I
should.

What are the methods the rest of you are using and is there any thought on
the oscillating sprinkler vs. fungicide thing?

Thanks
