Once pollinations are set all males should be removed. They only serve to
attract Cucumber Beetles around here. Not aware of a desirable hormonal
influence.

Really?  I read on here someone stating that clipping any flowers was
not encouraged.  Due to the fact of one chemical being produced to make
new flowers and another chemical (one that promotes fruit growth) being
produced immediately once the flower blooms.  If you clip the flowers,
the plant then switches back to the flower producing chemical and
reduces the amount of fruit growing stuff.

I'll have to look and find the thread again.  I think it was from 2002.

And yes, clip the male flowers and prune the tert vines. Just save it
until tomorrow.
