Folks,
Sorry to hear about the splits, this is a very fustrating, I know!? I've had them blow out as big as 1157 lbs...realize that in this sport that is normal.? From Rookies to Big Hitters, normal.
Mainly the question is from the pollination point...is the pumpkin solid or does it have weak points...normally we can't tell from looking until it gets too big to cull so we're stuck with it. ;-).
I know lots of growers who grow 10-12 pumpkins in hopes of getting 3-4 that make it (myself included).
So I know it's a lot of work and a huge bummer when you see that split or rot or ....
I hope people aren't getting too fustrated...if you want a nice big pumpkin that seems to be pretty solid the Wyatt. (I grow them also, beautiful!)
They can get 200-300 lbs and are a great red/orange color and nice shape....and I've never had one split...in about 100 pumpkins I've grown of them.
(nice backups if you can do it)
The old saying still applies..."If you're not blow'em, you're not grow'em"...but I hope the ride was fun.

I was in a hurry to make her big. I lost my better vines in a storm earlier
so I was trying to get one to catch-up. Too much fertilizer and
incompetence. I didn't have the fruit tarped after I lost the better plants
in July. I figure it hardened and split from growing too fast.
At least I can have some seeds for next year.
