Hi Kathie Morgan,
That is a interesting question, and I really don't know. I would imagine that seed breeder keep those types of records, but there are SO many different varieties that I think what you would have to do is ask about a specific variety, then Google that and see what you get. Otherwise, contact Burpee (seed catalog seller) who may be able to connect you with big growers of that variety.
Sorry I don't have a direct answer for you. I would be interested in what sort of answers you dig up.
Do you have a giant in your patch?
