RE: Rookie Success!

I will offer to haul it to a weigh-off if it finishes and her family is
interested. I usually haven't taken my fruits to a weigh-off in the past. We
are usually very busy with harvest at that time. I am not a competitive
person by nature (at least with pumpkins). I just really enjoy it. I
appreciate the stock and appreciate the interest you take in everyone's
vines Steve.

Great news Steve!

Thanks for the update. We have one 731 still kicking in the Woodbridge patch
where the 731 was grown. Please let her know my 12 year old son Stephen made
that cross himself hoping for nice orange color (500 Northrup x 981 Zunino).
He was pleased to hear she is growing it & doing well. She's actually right
around our current estimated weight so we have a good youth contest going
here!

Go easy on the fertilizers. Steady wins the race.

Will her pumpkin get to a weighoff if it finishes?

I went to my neighbor's this morning and got a pleasant surprise. I started
a Jepsen 731 in a pot this year and gave it to the neighbor's daughter with
some instructions.

I helped her transplant it on top of a dirt mound in the old cow paddock. We
would drive by every day and cheer for her vines. She has two fruits and one
is at least 375lbs!

I am so proud of her and have enjoyed her success as I had little this year.

Thanks for the seed Steve. I think you helped bring a 13-year-old girl into
the Club! I will post a pic at the end of the season. Good luck everyone. I
will be very busy with harvest in a few weeks!

P.S. You learn something every year with this hobby. The lesson here is that
she gave this plant relatively LITTLE care. I did give her some fertilizer
and advise.

I was going to help her apply 0-0-60 to her vine but after mine blew I held
off. Sometimes we may do too much?
