I feel for you..I've had to get seeds from some very ugly
pumpkins...especially ones, I'm trying to get seeds from and try to keep them
on the vines as long as possible...so sifting through rotted pumpkin looking
for seeds is not fun.

If you don't want the seeds,  one of the things I do now is just cut them up a
bit and then cover them with soil..they will rot down very fast  and the soil
keeps the bugs and smell down...if you have grass clippings...that is another
thing to cover them up with....then just rototill them in next spring...so
much easier than hauling.

If it is a fresh split...like my 1104 Bhaskaran was yesterday ... I gave it to
a person raising a pig...they love'em!

Yesterday I had the task of cutting up my 800 lb pumpkin that went soft.  It
as more rotten than I thought and it was one big mess.  I had to cut it up
ittle by little in order to haul one piece at a time to throw in the back of
y pick-up truck.  Hot sweaty work.  There is nothing quite like the smell of
 pumpkin when it goes bad.  Mosquito's were attacking me while I did this
hore.  I think I spent an hour in hell.  It made me appreciate the growers
hat manage to grow a "Big One".  Not sure what I did wrong, but I hope to
igure it out.  Because hauling off rotten pumpkins is the worst job in the
orld!
I hope no one has to experience this.
