Deb and Shazzy,
ooks like a two hour drive, well 2.5 in the Ford plus flatbed. Indiana's
eigh-off is Sep. 26. If I can keep them good till October, The family and I
ill see you there! The only thing that may get in the way is bean harvest.
ou have to take them when you can and that comes first...unfortunately.
One question Shazzy:
ur weigh-off is the week before, west of Plymouth, IN. Could there be a way
o haul our fruits to Homer Glenn from there a week early? That would save
e a trip back to Warsaw, IN. a load, unload, then load again. I understand
e would be asking for storage for a week.
reat Site! The kids would have a ball!

I do Debbie. The MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY WEIGH OFF at Bengston's Farm in
omer Glen, IL will be held Sunday Oct. 3rd. George Janowiak, myself, and
ll other Illinois Giant Pumpkin Growers Association members are running
his
PC event along with those who are willing to lend a hand that day. Things
ike measuring pumpkins, helping to number them in order, judging for
avity breaching splits or holes, keeping the little things in line that
op up
ll day and such. Or just come and sit back and enjoy. We should have
lenty of people to help, but more help is always welcome for those wanting
o
et into the mix and get involved. I would encourage that because it will
et us all a chance to get to know each other better for the newbies. We
ill have the muscle for the lifting and moving crew so no one has to break

weat unless they want to. There will also be plenty to do that day at the
arm besides just watching the weigh off...especially if you have kids.
ere is Bengston's site on line. I grew up in Homer Glen and now live in
oliet. Dave and Dan Bengston are great guys and they run nothing but a top
notch show. Our effort and there effort will kick off this innagural weigh
ff
nto a good time for all for many years to come. Those wishing to just
atch the weigh off and/or enter their pumpkins to be weighed will not be
harged full entry fee to the farm. To see all these cool attractions
isted in
he site below, an entry fee will be charged by the Bengston's.

or those who want to come in from out of town to compete or just watch the
show, we are going to work with one of the local Joliet casino's to get
ome possible discount rates on rooms and have them ensure us of guarded
arking areas for pumpkin security while you take in some gambling, dining,
nd
entertainment.

rize structure will 5000 for first and something along this lines.
1.5000
.3000
.1500
. 800
. 400
. 300
. 200
. 100
. 75
0. 50

rettiest pumpkin and ugliest pumpkin win 100 bucks each too to be voted by
the growers.
e encourage everyone from the area to bring a pumpkin they have grown and
eigh it to feel the excitement of the pumpkin hitting the scale and the
nticipation of the results. From the smallest to the biggest...they are all
our pride and joys. It has been a tough year on many, but we encourage you
o bring something to the scale no matter what and share your stories. It
s a great way to participate, have fun, learn, and get more involved too.

nyone with questions can call me on my cell at 815 483 5552 as the event
raws closer. We will post more info on Bigpumpkins.com with directions,
ntering times, unloading, etc.

or out of staters, we are hoping the prize structure will encourage those
rom all around the Midwest and beyond to help make this event as fun as
ossible. We are hoping to draw growers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana,
innesota, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and beyond. It would be great having a
idwest Event that unites many of the best growers from the Midwest and
eyond.
hat is the reason the event is being held on a open Sunday so more growers
can attend. The more the merrier is our take and hope to see a great
urnout for what should be a blast.

ope to see you there Debbie along with all the other growers out there.
ome help us kick off this innagural event in a big, big way.
