RE: killing a tree

OK, not all Maple trees are desirable. Silver Maples are a dirty tree. Big seed pods, make a mess on everything when they drop them. They are called "Instant Shade" because they grow so fast. It's about the only reason they get planted. Called Silver Maples for the underside of the leaves can give a silver hue when the wind blows. Now, Sugar Maples are a whole different thing. I'm in New Hampshire as I write this. Beautiful tress and give us the great Fall colors, and our Maple Syrup! Swamp Maples are the first to turn in the Fall and give us the beautiful red colors.

Depending on where you live, you could have the thing topped. Some city
foresters will not allow it. If you can top it, there is your sunlight
without killing the tree. For a small fee I will come over with the Sthil 84
and 52" bar. We could even work out a new deck for you if the wind is
blowing right.
Off to Colorado to see my folks this week. I am sure my patch will do just
fine in 98 degree heat and the neighbor looking out for them. Karma is
a....well it's Karma.

Here Here Steve!!!! Maples are trash trees (unless
they're Japanese maples). Their roots are murder to mowers and tillers
alike. Back in colonial times they girdled trees. it works. Lightning did it to one of my monster oak trees back in April. blew all the bark off the
trunk. July = dead tree. but if a person needs to be less conspicuous,
then drill pilot holes into the trunk and drive copper wires into the tree,
in deep. Hard to find copper nails these days.

Maples are garbage, especially Silvers. Unless it is a sugar
maple tip it.

Hi Mark,

Please do not
kill a healthy tree. It would be a shame to destroy a
tree
which will
otherwise likely outlive us, for the sake of a plant which,
at best, will live
a few weeks. From the message I suspect it is
illegal
as well.

Find another
way to grow a pumpkin. Perhaps a neighbor, community
garden, or your front
lawn, instead of the back?

Ron C.
