Re: Cracks & Danger Zone-What Is Excessive!

Joe,

You can make a paste out of Captan and fill the cracks. Captan is a
fungicide powder available in most garden or nursery stores.

Mix it with a little water and fill the crack with the paste.I use a soft
artist brush. Keep this stuff off your hands, it is not user friendly and
will absorb into the skin!

If the cracks open into the cavity of the pumpkin it is pretty much all
over! It would be considered an illegal pumpkin at any contest and would
most likely begin to rot well before any of the weighoff dates.

If you are in an excessive growth period they may continue to enlarge and
split through to the cavity.

On a second note, does anyone have any comments or thoughts with regard to
what is excessive growth, to the point of danger (splits) for both
Circumference measurements and OVT. measurements.
