Rookie in trouble

Hi, My name is Dean and I'm new to the list. I got myself into a growing
contest with my soon to be father n law who fancy's himself as a green
thumb!( Most of you will laugh at this as I now do ) So in the beginning I
planted three plants in my alotted 10' x 10' plot. What was I thinking ? in
any case I now have two plants that have control of my lawn and bedding plants.

Here's my problem, I have pruned down to three pumpkins two on one
plant and one on the other. Last week my neighbor behind me went nuts
watering and with his sprinklers on timers he had flooded half my patch for
about a week. I would have standing water then it would soak away just to be
flooded the next morning. So I have talked to him and he has cut back on the
watering but my patch won't dry up it's just soaked. We have had some really
hot weather the past week to boot (90'S) Now my one plant has leaves dying
they are turning yellow and I'm in a panic the dying leaves are around the
base of the plant, the leaves on the runners are fine. AHHHH I have added
some topsoil and have mixed it in to help absorb some of the excess, I am in
a bit of a low spot. I have stopped watering and my pumpkins are growing a
couple of inches in girth a day.

What can I do ? will my plant make it ? any help would be great I finnaly
caught up to the father n law and I have a contender. It's kinda a battle of
the old school vs the new school.

Thank You

Dean
