Hello all. Many thanks to all who advised me on vine stress and weed
killers recently. Much appreciated !
Another question:
Each morning when I leave for work I've been telling my cats to "guard
that pumpkin !". So far they've done a splendid job & it's been
attacked by nothing.
However, today it seems one got a bit over enthusiastic and lascerated
the pumpkin ! There are several scratches about 3.5 mm deep I reckon.
They look like they've split open about 1-2 mm wide. This pumpkin is
approx 20 inches in diameter. Is this likely to be a problem ?
Anything I should do ?
From what I've read here, I guess some might recommed mixing up some
captan paste to apply ? Problem is I've yet to find captan in the UK.
So at 7.30pm tonight I went out to a DIY store with gardening section
(the only one open) and looked for some sort of fungicide. The only
powdered product I could get is something called "Bio Systhane -
Systemic Fungicide - contains MYCLOBUTANIL for control of mildev, black
spot, rust & scab on roses, apples and pears".
The packet sais to mix about a thimble full of powder in 2.5 litres of
water and spray. So, should I:
a) mix some up into a paste and apply it
b) mix some into water and spray it on
c) stop worrying and forget about it
d) all of the above
e) none of the above
(sorry :-) )
Very grateful for any advice.
As with my last post, the damage in question can be viewed close up at

Soon there'll be a picture of the large hammock I've constructed to
hoist the side vines up off the lawn !
I've nearly finished the software to control my digital camera to
automatically take the pumpkin picture, dial-up the internet & update my
web site with the picture. The first "pump-cam" maybe ?
Oh dear, am I loosing it ? Have giant pumpkins got the better of me ?
Thanks again.
- Nick.
