Re: Squirrels!
I don't really want to admit this in public, but I have had some success
deterring squirrels by marking the boundaries of the pumpkin patch with
urine (mine). Could be my imagination, but the story alone is worth the
trouble.
Here is a second, even less intuitive approach: keep the little suckers so
well fed they won't want to chew on your pumpkins. A neighbor of mine
dispenses peanuts every day, and we have large squirrel population as a
result. I find peanuts buried in my garden all the time, yet my pumpkins
and vines are almost free of damage.
