I told a friend today that I was on a giant pumpkin mailing list and she
said that she'd read an article about the cut throat nature of competitive
pumpkin growing, and had read about some scandal somewhere in the states
where metal detectors were being wielded by competition judges.
The reason- sneaky growers had been inserting lead weights into the
pumpkins when they were young, and then letting the flesh heal around the
weight- and suddenly the pumpkin had gained extra pounds!
Does this really happen?? (Hope I don't get expelled from this group for
mentioning such terrible deeds)
(*evil grin* and is this why so many people have been writing in recently
to ask how to heal cracks and sores on their giants??)
Regards
vanessa.
